Fitness Strength Training

May 8th, 2009

Fitness Strength Training really is a secret weapon when you’re trying to firm up and get in great shape.  There may not be one “best exercise to lose weight” but when you combine strength training exercises and a healthy diet you have a winning combination. As we get older and less active, every year we start to lose muscle and that turns to fat thus slowing down your metabolism. So when you hear people say “it’s so hard too lose weight when you’re older” this is true but it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s not too hard when you focus and create a game plan for your fitness level no matter how old you are. When you’re active you’re building lean strong muscles which help to protect your body more as you get older. The more active you are the better you’ll be in the long run.

Fitness strength training should be done 3-4 times per week and may include using dumbbells and fitness machines as well as body weight exercises like push ups and pull ups. If you’re not a gym type person then you can do your workouts on your own in the privacy of your home.

Lose Back Fat

May 6th, 2009

How do I Lose Back Fat when I’m working out…. I don’t see any results?  STOP what you’re doing! You are most likely doing far too many upper body workouts and by doing this you’re only compounding the problem because muscle is building but you’re not getting rid of the fat. This can even make you look LARGER!

Start focussing on your diet and strength training. Watch your caloric intake but never starve yourself as this becomes counter productive. Starving yourself can actually slow your metabolism down so don’t do it. You want to increase your lean muscle mass and reduce your overall body fat percentage. Implement some low impact cardio such as treadmill, cycling, aerobics, circuit training and body weight exercises. This gives you a varied workout and will help you lose back fat. Also eat lots of greens such as beans, salads, asparagus and broiled chicken, whole grains and oatmeal just to name a few.
